Chartered on June 8, 1972, the Sacramento Valley Section began under the leadership of Legacy Life Member Bettye O. Williams with the support her sisters in purpose — Maude Brewer, Callie Carney, Life Member Minnie Clopton, Leslie Fort, Rosa Gillespie, Geneva Hamilton, Life Member Janette Hampton, Dr. Sumatra Kirkland, Jimie Rhinehart, Mary Louise Riles, Julia E. Sledge, Callie Smith, and Jackie Smith. Today, the section continues to support and advocate for women of African descent under its current president, Jacqueline Dyson, who is supported by a body of dedicated and passionate women from all backgrounds.
What We Do
- Champion women’s civil and human rights and work to reduce health disparities
- Promote the positive growth of youth and college students
- Equip women to lead in their communities
- Work toward the economic empowerment of African American Women
- Celebrate and strengthen the Black family
- Work to effect change via public policy and advocacy
